Brewing news Vietnam: Lao Beer Company to expand production to 2 million hl by 2009

Lao Brewery Company (LBC) which is well known by domestic and foreign drinkers as the symbol of Laos last month was awarded with the gold and silver medals at the 2006 International Quality Competition for Beverages and Foods held in Belgium, Laos News Agency released July 24.

The competition was attended by 71 beverages and foods production companies worldwide.

Managing Director of LBC, Mr Kissana Vongsay said: “All of the medals awarded to the LBC is not a dignity for not only the Lao Brewery Company but its also a dignity of all Lao people, and we should continue to do our best for our country dignity in the future.”

The medals were awarded by Monde Selection International Institute for Quality Selection, which included on Grand Gold Medal award to LBC for Tiger head Drinking Water, another two Gold Medals for Large Beer 330 ml and 640 ml and a Silver Medal for Dark Larger 330 ml.

Beer Lao caused a flutter among beer producers in Russia by being awarded the silver award at the 7th brewery festival in Russia in only its first year of participation.

Beer Lao last year announced yet another success on the international stage after receiving the Osiris award at a Russian beer festival, June 4-12, 2005 with the participation from more than 40 beer companies from Russia and overseas.

Beer Lao has been exporting now to the USA, France, Japan, New Zealand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Canada and Australia, England and Germany.

Faced with a 10 percent annual increase in domestic consumption, LBC has almost reached the limit of its current production capacity of 850,000 hl per year. Therefore LBC has recently made a decision to invest US$25 million in second Brewer Factory Construction Project in Champasak province to expand productivity available to 2 million hl per year.

However, many of planners estimate that by 2009, a production capacity of 2 million hl per year will be insufficient to meet domestic and foreign demands.
